NO DUBBING REMAKE IS OK – DR GIRISH KARNAD

A very rare personality who is very special Dr Girish Karnad was present at the media briefing of a remake film ‘Rudra Thandava’ at Citadel Hotel in Bangalore on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr Karnad took a few questions and spiked a few but he was logically correct in his address. No dubbing support from me but I do not hesitate for remake films. Otherwise how could we make so many films he says justifying his remake stand.

For a remake version of film I do not see the original. In those days of ‘Sharaabi’ remake to Kannada as ‘Nee Thanda Kaanike’ I told Dwarakish the same thing I am telling today to Guru Deshpande. My duty is to satisfy what director says. Here is a man with ‘Appata Uttara Kannada’ name Guru Deshpande. I would satisfy him in my role that is enough for me. I do not worry about the success or failure of any film.

I was sometime to stand and go sit and go. I did not attach importance. For this ‘Rudra Thandava’ director is convinced that I can satisfy so he has invited me to the role says Karnad.

Taking questions why remakes, why subsidies to films when farmers are committing suicide for crop failure and why the film makers are not taking novels of Kannada etc, Karnad replied all novels cannot be made as films. Novel films and remake films have crashed in the past. When I took up ‘Kanooru Subbamma Heggadathi’ I told that justice in collections was not possible for the producers. 700 pages to bring it down to two hours is impossible task. Like that ‘Samskara’ was good one for film. It was small, tidy and good one to take for big screen he pointed.

Dr Girish Karnad, pride of Karnataka Jnanapith award winner was lauded for his acceptance in ‘Rudra Thandava’. He plays father to Chiranjeevi Sarja.

Dr Karnad was very humble to the admiration extended to him.
